  • Step 1:Remove packaging materials (cardboard and paper).
  • Step 2: Remove and save ALL screws from along the seams. Split the column. Forcing the column will not cause damage.
  • Step 3: Remove the paper and plastic from the flanges and surfaces of the seams. Lightly sand the surfaces where the paper was removed. See figures 1, 2, and 3.
  • Step 4: Pre-check column measurements and clearance. It is best to have the column 1/2" short (see the instructions for basic column installation). We also recommend that the two halves be put back together without excessive force. Correct any interference.
  • Step 5: Once you are ready to install, separate the columns halves and put construction grade adhesive (PL Construction Adhesive or comparable) along the flange and seam. See figures 4 and 5. Put the column in place and push the two halves together. Each half is manufactured to only fit precisely aligned with its pair. Clean off excess adhesive.
  • Step 6: Use the screws to hold the two halves in the correct position while the adhesive is drying. If, by tightening a screw, the surfaces across the seam become uneven, reverse the screw until they become even. See figures 6 and 7.
  • Step 7: Once the adhesive is dry (24 hours for PL Construction Adhesive), remove the screws and fill the holes with automotive body filler. Finish off the seam and the screw holes with automotive spot putty. Sand the spot putty with a fine-grit sand paper (120 or greater).
  • Step 8: Paint the columns and enjoy the seamless look and long-lasting quality of your Architectural Detail fiberglass columns.
